Online forms has not been blue eyed startup domain as compared to video/content startups. Still there are many startups thriving to make their mark in it. FormSpring has been around since one year. Recently they introduced a couple of changes in their offerings and revamped their website. The other startups in this realm are Flovv, Wufoo.
On first look, FormSpring leaves a good impression for its paypal integration and field security features, and reasonable pricing. The form building process displays lot of ajax magic, which is admirable, but more towards flashy side, than usability. It scores in data presentation with its tabular view, which is not provided by most other apps. Form creation is a four step process which is pretty intuitive and submit customizations are easy to handle. Drag and drop fields are nice addon, coupled with sections to organize the data better.
Such apps are usability driven, and are augmented by data presentation. There is lot room to improve the user experience. The free version instantly given you-need-to-pay-to-get-started feeling. The registration process has an extraneous loop, which forces a user to pay a visit to her email, even for the first use. Lazy validation would make the experience better instead. Messaging needs to be reworked a bit. The real estate can be further used, the pages feel too “white” for an app like this.
Should you need to conduct any surveys then give it a try. The powerful paypal, and security fields is the USP here.
